SALEMA is an initiative of Vandy and Rebecca, residents of Washington DC in the United States of America. Vandy was born and partially raised in Salema. The idea of giving back to the community started when we visited the village in 2007, five years after the Sierra Leone civil war. The warm reception we received and the good nature of the people left an indelible mark. After two years of discussions with residents of the community, we have come up with this people-centered project that will hopefully keep more children in school, provide them and their parents with safe drinking water and a better equipped clinic.
